China’s Recycling

The United States has long been one of the world’s largest exporters of its own garbage. Though we ship it to many countries, the main recipient was China. That is essentially the content of the first half of the article which was discussing how China has decided to no longer continue within these practices. This poses a problem as we do not have the recycling capacity needed to work with all of our “extra” trash. They said that we need to either create sustainability, or find another country that is willing to take on that issue. I think that this is a massive moment for the country, as we are looking at a moment of adapt or lose. I understand why China is doing what they are doing, and it is indirectly forcing the United States to become more ecologically responsible with its waste. We are either going to find an alternative or drown in the trash that we have created. In the second half of the article, they bring up a startup which aims to be able to alleviate this stress on the country. The startup, named Terravive, creates biodegradable waste, so that when it has fulfilled its use, it is not using up more space than needed. I think that this startup is badly needed, as we do not have enough reuse within the country, and we use up more materials on a yearly basis than are naturally replenished yearly. Nobody wants to live next to piles of trash (unless you live in Staten Island)(Sorry, that was unneeded), so it is important to see a growing trend in sustainability. This startup specifically makes to-go containers, forks, spoons, and cups, but there are many others that create any other piece of cutlery, or dish, or whatever need be.
