Voting Survey
A lot of surprises came when looking at the results of the voter survey. Firstly, there were a lot of things that I would've changed that could've kept the data cleaner, like getting rid of the short answer boxes for a lot of the questions such as age. This small mistake just made it so that the data could be misrepresented because some people would put in an answer into the box that's already an option. Another issue that we faced was means of dissemination. This is because a lot of people posted it on their story and most of their followers are around their age so if any of their followers did the survey it could've skewed a more accurate representation of voters. One last issue that I saw is that some of the questions could be clarified a little more and doing so could have changed the answers given. Something like giving an example of what the question is talking about or just more clarification would have definitely helped.
Now, I want to look at two sections from that survey and compare them, more specifically, racial issues and gender equality. I'm looking at these topics in specific because they both deal with some sort of discrimination just based on different things. A difference I saw between the two is the composition of the answers, in the gender section the last two questions have a very clear majority, (the first question's pie chart looks like a peace sign) but in the racial section, while there are definitely majorities, it is more spread out and closer to even. Although, something that is interesting here is that a similar percentage of people who say gender inequality is bad, also support things like BLM or say that President Trump's response to BLM was bad. It makes sense, but it also makes you think, why doesn't everybody who supports gender equality also support racial equality what is the difference between the two that would make a voter change their answer based purely on the discriminated feature, as both race and gender issues have been a problem for a while (although the race issues were/are a little more extreme).
