Voting Survey (Level of Education and Healthcare)
I decided to compare the baseline question, level of education, and the healthcare section. I picked these because healthcare is something that seems to need a more educated opinion rather than just a guess. I have calculated that 68.8% of the respondents have some type of degree or diploma. The first two healthcare questions both seem to be broken up into large sections rather than smaller individual sections such as the last question, this allows me to give a more accurate comparison. Looking at the first healthcare question we can clearly see that it is leaning towards an approving outcome with 77.6% either approving entirely with the ACA or approving but needs changes with the ACA. What this shows me is that the 77.6% most likely have had experience with this form of healthcare meaning that they were an adult, so 18+, starting in 2010 or so or a bit after sense that was when it started. I am taking an educated guess and saying that the extra 6+ percent that was a part of the 77.6% and was not a part of the 68.8% was most likely those that marked attending college as they might not have a degree but are starting to understand more about healthcare as an adult. Moving on to the next question we can see that it is once again one-sided but it is not as surprising as there are only three answer choices. The majority answer is 69.6% which is a 0.8 % increase from the total percentage of those with a degree or diploma. What this immediately says to me is that the majority percentage consists mostly of those that have a degree or diploma and 0.8% most likely consists of a small group of the other respondents. The 20% that say that it is a privilege I would take an educated guess to say that quite a few of them do not have a degree or diploma and are rather just basing their answer off of opinion on what they think is true. The 10.4% I would say consist of those that do not have a degree or diploma as they are not as aware of what to agree with. Moving forward to the last question it seems to be pretty well rounded when looking at the responses. I would say that this last question is more focused on opinion. If you look at the first question that talks about the ACA you can see that a lot of people approve of it but then when you take a look at the last question it is not that simple. The way I see it is that more people would prefer to have something other than the ACA as only 27.3% of the replies voted to keep it or keep it but make some changes. This question seems to be a bit harder to compare to the level of education as in the end it is a preference. The way I see it is that the people that do not have a diploma or degree that took this test most likely went with their gut or with none of the above.
Looking at the survey overall I feel that there were a lot of strong points, specifically the topics we had were very important and allowed a lot of people to give their opinion. While the topics were good I feel as though we could have improved on the answer choices. For example, in the last question of my section, healthcare, I felt that we could have had an option to write your own answer. I know that we did talk about this in class but I feel that when it comes to such an important topic like health care people should be able to give their opinion. This would have also allowed us to analyze what they wrote down and looked into it as a group to get a better understanding of something we may not know. Something else that would have made this a better survey would have been if there was a requirement for each of the questions. I briefly looked at the individual answers and saw that some people did not respond to the specific sections that I was writing about which meant that some of the percentages were wrong and not just for me but for the other students as well. I think that next time we do a survey we should make sure that all the questions are required. Aside from that, i think that the survey was a success and hopefully next time covid will be over and we can get more responses.
