When I was around 6 or 7 I got a 3DS for my birthday. I had always loved playing video games on my dad’s cell phone, and I would love watching people play video games on YouTube. I think that during the early 2010s, videogames were mainly marketed towards younger boys. Although girls played video games, a lot more boys did. Videogames have been really popular with younger audiences for many years now and are only growing to new audiences. They are a way to bring friendships closer and to make new friendships. When I got my 3DS I connected with more of my friends because although we couldn't play together it was something to talk about. When I first got my 3DS, video games were mainly marketed towards boys and were in the boy’s toys section. Despite the fact that mainly only boys played videogames at that time I genuinely had a fun time playing them. I don’t think I was necessarily pressured into liking videogames because I had asked parents to buy me them. With other toys such as mini cars, I didn’t exactly have a choice of getting them because my parents would just buy them for me. I’m not saying that I didn’t like the toys my parents gave me, I still had fun with them, but I feel like I had more of a choice with videogames. I used to play every weekend for very small amounts of time because of strict limits set by my parents but over time they got relaxed and let me play for longer. This has led me to like playing video games a lot and now I play almost every day with my girlfriend.
