why are we so quick to judge?

as humans, one of our first instincts while meeting someone new is to judge. while it's not necessarily on purpose, it's undoubtedly the truth. as a society, we are brought up in a very judgemental world, so naturally, we act accordingly, by making quick judgments, whether they're kind-hearted, petty, or just plain mean, they're a part of our psyche and shape who we are and who we associate ourselves with. "our brains are wired to make automatic judgments about others’ behaviors so that we can move through the world without spending too much time or energy on understanding everything we see" is what the article from psychology today states, which i think really encapsulates judgments in the modern world .judgements can become one of three things, helpful, personal or rude. helpful judgments are remarks that help ourselves and others. a helpful judgment would be something like "you're sick, you should head to the doctor's." these not only benefit us but the party in question as well. moving on to personal judgments, these are phrases that could be rude or mean to someone else or yourself, so you keep them to yourself. remarks like "those shoes don't fit her outfit at all" to me, would be considered personal judgments. and finally, we have rude judgments, which are things that do not help the party in question, do not help you, and just bring down the whole mood. they include, but are not limited to statements like "you look fat, you aren't that funny, or why does she look like that" rude judgments are comparable to personal judgments which are nearly the same except one is kept to yourself so no one's feelings get hurt!

so clearly after knowing the types of judgments, why we judge, and what they mean to us, you can learn to use different types in conversation, and more!

below is the content i used to help me write my essay, super useful!
