 Emile Durkheim was a French sociologist. He made sociology its own subdivision which is now taught as an academic discipline because of him. Before, sociology wasn’t an independent field, but rather another subcategory in philosophy, psychology, economics. He made it an independent study and along with that, he has contributed many great ideas as well. One of his most important works was about suicide. He dove into the idea that capitalism and industrialization of countries lead to mass rates of suicide, and after further research, this was proven. He wanted to figure out why people had started to become more depressed, and suicidal in modern society, and in this research, he discovered five major points that are now very influential to Sociology. In her life time she was an author, a novelist, a journalist, and a sociologist. She has accomplished many things, her most famous accomplishment being her book, Theory and Practice of Society in America. Not only was Harriet Martineau very successful, but she was also hard of hearing, and had many heart issues. This of course made her life harder, but she did not fail to affect society. She was one of the first people to say it was ok to doubt your religion. Not only did she believe this, but she also doubted her religion. Emile Durkheim and Karl Marx are two sociologists who worked during the 19th century and took two very different approaches to the study of sociology. Durkheim who moved to sociology from empirical science developed functionalist theory which is the idea that society is a collection of individual pieces that work together to make a functioning whole which I am sure would have to be corrected or discarded entirely if he was here to observe modern America. As opposed to Durkheim Marx described society as a battle between basically the upper and lower class and predicted that the lower class would eventually overthrow the upper class in an industrialized nation. Ironically enough Marx's prediction probably had the same effect on future communist nations as future capitalist nations. The fear of a communist revolution basically singlehandedly led to America's economic investment in post world war 2 Europe and most definitely initiated the red scare. 

Everest Leo Mr. Roddy IHSS 11 October 2020 Development of Sociology (Max Weber & Emile Durkheim)      Max Weber was a German sociologist who started out by analyzing the motives behind human actions. It wasn't totally unexpected the he became some sort of sociologist for the fact that a few of his relatives were sociologist already and his father, a liberal politician. He wrote a thorough analysis of some of Germany's agrarian problems, and among other things, some essays on the German stock exchange, but most of this early work was political. Weber's most well known and his most controversial work is The Protestant Ethic and the Spirit of Capitalism and for a reason. In that piece he goes over correlation between capitalist ventures in Germany and Protestantism, attributing the creation of the spirit of capitalism to certain religious groups.     Why do we say ' Good Morning '?     Why has 'Good Morning been said for thousands of years?  There are many reasons to why we say 'Good Morning'. By saying 'Good Morning', you are wishing the person or people you are talking to a good day. It is also a great way to start a conversation, as it is a friendly phrase. It brings a slightly more friendly presence to those that listen. I say good morning to reveal my presence in a good mood. Saying 'bad morning' would likely be a joke or sarcasm knowing what is usually said every day. Starting off the day with a good mood is always great, and sayin good morning brings that minimal warmth that can brighten someone's day.  The toy that I used to have as a child was a Lighting McQueen diecast. When I was little I used to be obsessed with the Disney Pixar Cars movie and when I was turning three my uncle gave me the toy. I used to take it to most places when we lived over seas so that I wouldn't get board when my parents where shopping. Another reason why I really enjoyed it because it looked really cool with the lighting bolt on the side and my favorite colors where orange and red. The way it was advertise didn't matter to me because I was too young when I got the toy. However once I was a little older like around the ages of 4 or 5, I realized that they were more kinds of Disney Pixar Cars diecast, so I started making a mini collection. However there was no real pressure from advertisement. There was also no reason I bought my first Lighting McQueen because it was a gift by my uncle. I also played with it around the house. My parents then bought me a carpet that was designed like a race track so ...

       When I was a little girl I thought blue was for boys and pink was for girls. It felt like it was just a fact of life like it was just natural. The same concept applied to toys as well. There were boy toys, like Hotwheels and Legos, which were usually packaged in blues and reds, and there were girl toys, like Barbies and Rainbow Loom, which were generally packaged in pinks and purples. When I was little you would have never caught me looking down the boy's isles in Target. For one, I thought that would just be embarrassing if someone caught me looking at boy toys. And another reason is I don't think I even ever considered the idea that I might like playing with any of those toys. I feel like that's because for as long as I can remember I've been taught and shown that girls and boys like and do separate things.
