Watching Sports

 One thing that my family and I do is watch sports. Watching sports brings us together and it's a fun family activity. It has also made me some friends from the past few years. Sports creates conversations by providing common ground, and unified sense of purpose. Some of the players that play sports are great role models for their team or the community. Sports also collect people from different classes and backgrounds. An example would be Nav Bhatia. He is the biggest Toronto Raptors fan and possibly the biggest basketball fan. He has attended every home raptors home game since 1996. Even though he's a fan he is known all across the NBA. He's made thousands of friends and he has even made friends with a lot of Raptors players and staff.

"Liberty"

Everest Leo Mr. Roddy IHSS 6 February 2021 "Liberty"     Liberty and freedom are very often used interchangeably in context for free will of the people within a state. As many of us know, liberty and freedom are not interchangeable and within an external political background, this stays the same. I think the way that Montesquieu presents political liberty is very elegant, but like most things in this world is flawed. I agree that there needs to be checks and balances and that total freedom allowing the people to do whatever could result in lots of violence. I agree that laws should not be extensive or ambiguous for the sake of difficult judging and inconsistent legislation. In general, Montesquieu's definition is rather short and efficient, but a place where I do not agree with him is how he would ideally deal with criminals. He says that "the laws should make it as easy as possible for an innocent person to prove his or her innocence." I find this rather unset...

  Alex Gross Mr. Roddy IHSS 5 February 2021 Wall Street, Gamestop, and Classism In the past few weeks there was one of the most peculiar phenomena in the stock market that I’ve seen in my lifetime. The price of Gamestop stock had a range of 10 dollars to 350 dollars per share in January alone. The article that I read from the New York Times discussed why this happened and what effect it had on the investors. Many Wall Street investors and companies had the Gamestop Stock shorted which means they were betting that it would go down. Millions of small investors, many of which had never invested in the stock market before, were encouraged to drive up the price of the Gamestop Stock on Reddit. I believe that on both sides of this phenomena (Wall Street investors shorting the stock and Independent Investors from Reddit buying the stock) that what is going on right now is foolish.
