Restaurants fighting through a worker shortage

Many small business restaurants have shut down due to the pandemic, but some did survive, with the help of the government, takeout, and just pure luck. But now even those are struggling. There is a widespread worker shortage because of many reasons, such as people staying home. The article focuses on Michael Pasquarello, who owns and operates 3 restaurants. He has been using each of their "special things" to help keep them afloat. Cafe Lift makes brunch food, which is ideal for takeout. The Kensington Quarters has a fairly large space outside that could accommodate everyone while eating inside was not allowed. The Prohibition Taproom converted some of their parking spaces into places to eat outside making it a unique place to go to eat. "it's been a mixed bag of tricks. Each place had to figure a different way to deal with this" Pasquarello says. As more and more people become vaccinated business is becoming better, but as the summer comes and an influx of people want to eat out, there won't be enough workers to serve them all. This could be because they don't want to be by so many people and haven't been able to get the vaccine yet, or maybe the longer hours at the moment because of the worker shortage, so its really just a circle. They see that there would be long hours and because of them not wanting the job the hours just end up staying long. The restaurants do see some hope though, with the minimum wage going up, more and more people will likely want to work there.

Articles like these are very important because they let the general public know what is happening and how you can help out in the problems that you see. It also helps people to see what the problem is and not just get mad at restaurants for not being fast enough, having too long of a wait, etc. I think that it also can help people that are thinking of starting a restaurant, but don't really know what all it entails. They might've thought of how hard it would be to stay afloat due to the amount of people buying from it but they might not have thought of a worker shortage.  This article could also help people that are looking for a job because they would then know where they are needed and almost guaranteed a job. In addition to that, it can help the businesses by informing people that might regularly go to one restaurant switch it up to help another restaurant that they like and know is struggling. They could read that article and notice it because they now know it is a thing and realize how they can help out to keep that restaurant around for a longer time. Overall this article is helpful to a very wide range of people and businesses.
