Little Rock
One quote that I was interested in was on document page 85, It is a telegram that was sent by Wilson Mann the mayor of Little Rock, sent to The President of the United States. “The immediate need for troops is urgent. The mob is much larger in numbers at 8 am than at any time yesterday people are converging on the scene from all directions mob is armed and engaging in fisticuffs and other acts of violence. The situation is out of control and the police cannot disperse the mob I am pleading to you as president of the United States in the interest of human law and order and because of democracy worldwide to provide the necessary federal troops within several hours. Action by you will restore peace and order and compliance with your compliance.
Woodrow Wilson Mann Mayor of Little rock Arkansas.” I found this interesting because in the telegram he states that the mob had gotten so bad that the local police could no longer handle them. This is astonishing, especially because it is just a high school, there were children there to witness that. I’m shocked by how infuriated the white people became after 9 black children attended a white school. I can't imagine how this entire situation mist have made the little rock nine feel, especially because they had gotten used to being regular teens at their old schools, just to be thrown out to the mobs at a new all-white school. I think that the idea was right but the way that it was handled could have been better. It was a step in the right direction to stop segregation, and it got the attention of everyone.
