In a statement by President Dwight D. Eisenhower released a statement regarding a conversation between him and Governor Faubus. This meeting surrounded the carrying out of the orders of the federal court regarding integration. The document states that “The Governor stated his intention to respect the decisions of the United States District Court and to give his full cooperation in carrying out his responsibilities in respect to the declaration” (83). This document was a way of ensuring that the governor would obey the federal law and help remove the previous confusion. Out of fear for disruptions and riots related to the new integration in schools, the Mayor of Little Rock, Arkansas writes a telegram to the president regarding the use of federal troops. It discusses the need for federal troops within an hour and reads; “Action by you will restore peace and order and compliance with your proclamation”. In a direct letter from President Eisenhower, Mr. Brown receives this message regarding the strive for equality and unity. “I believe that America’s heart goes out to you and your children in your present ordeal. In the course of our country’s progress toward equality of opportunity, you have shown dignity and courage in circumstances which would daunt citizens of lesser faith”. This is a very powerful message from the president and many parts of it stick out. He recognizes Mr. Brown’s dignity and patience despite his challenges. He also uses phrasing such as; “America's heart”, “our country” and “equality of opportunity”. This phrasing shows his acceptance and acknowledgment of the issues and his dedication to work towards a better America.
