Liberty

For starters, I would like to say that I do agree with nearly everything that Montesquieu thought although part of it was difficult to understand. When I think of the word liberty I first think of freedom to do what we want. Although, when we have a society especially one that is advanced as this one there need to be rules in place so that people do not abuse the freedom that they already have. The laws that we have allow our society to run effectively and be balanced. Even though it does seem that we have a balanced society with liberty for everyone.  The laws we have are supposed to be always enforced although that is not always the case. To be honest, the society that we have made today does not have what we should for a balanced society. There are hundreds of places across our nation where people do not feel safe as the laws that we have are not enforced meaning people do not feel the safety that they should in society.  Another interesting thing to think about is the abuse of freedom and what that may mean. We do not fully think of the laws every day because we have been taught that what we have in our country is complete freedom. It is almost as if we are aware and not aware at the same time. All that the laws are doing is providing our safety like Montesquieu talked about. A society that has complete freedom would mean that people would have the freedom to harm others which makes people unsafe. Without the constant thought of safety people panic which can quite easily damage a society through things like protests which can escalate into rioting which almost seems ironic that people can cause violence because they are scared of the lack of safety from violence. Something that I found interesting going back to the abuse of freedom is our government and how we have different beaches that help keep balance. If one branch truly did have all of the power then it would have complete freedom to do whatever is desired. It almost shows willpower how the founders of our nation decided that there should not be one branch ruling over everything and it is interesting how Montesquieu talked about each of the branches having a routine check to make sure that there is a balance of liberty throughout the government. Our nation revolves around liberty and if one person is more than another chaos can emerge.
