US Presidential Transition
On January 20th 2021, President elect Joe Biden became president. The article I chose to read was about this event and right before this event. They mentioned how important the days leading up to the inauguration was. These days were important for both Joe Biden and Donald Trump. These days were important for Trump because he got impeached for the second time, making him the first president ever to be impeached twice, it was also important because Trump had pardoned many prisoners in the last days of his presidency. It was interesting because the only prisoners that were pardoned were people who had openly stated they are Trump supporters. The days right before the inauguration were very important for Joe Biden as well. There were many things that could have messed up his inauguration and his chance to be president. After the protests at the capital two weeks ago, there were many threats set upon Biden. People were threatening to harm the President in order to delay his inauguration. These threats luckily did not work. During Trump’s last few days of presidency, he was banned from a majority of social media platforms. These include Twitter, facebook, Instagram, TikTok, Pinterest, Spotify, Twitch, and many more popular platforms. This is a very good thing for Biden because Trump’s tweets were utterly insane, causing the press to focus on them. This would also allow Trump to bring attention away from Biden, or cause a bad reaction towards his work. Joe Biden had come up with a plan for his first 100 days in office. This included re entering the Paris Accord, re entering the world health organization, making a nation wide mask mandate, re uniting deported families, creating a task force for covid, and much more. A majority of these things have already been accomplished, even though he has only been president for a single day.
