The US Presidential Transition

Most Presidential Transitions could be considered a transferral of power that will bring new change in the country if the new president was a direct enemy or part of the opposing political party of the previous one. While this Presidential Transition fits those conditions, many people are not seeing it as a new administration that will bring change, but rather one that will set the stage for change in the future. Due to the youth of our country, especially the ones that go out and vote, being composed of a strong majority of democrats, it is likely that the presidents we see in office in the future will remain democratic. Rather than hoping for this current administration to do a lot of things that make change, the democrats are just praying that there are certain things this administration won’t do that have been a pattern in our country for the past four years. This sudden change from a red-dominated Senate, Executive Branch, and Supreme Court, to a blue Senate and Executive Branch (and remaining blue House), could set the stage for the next administrations, or even the next decades, in terms of progress in fields including but not limited to: progressive healthcare, environmentalism, anti-racism, tax changes, and human rights. The article refers to something very interesting that they call the “Trump Hangover”. This could be defined as the lasting effect that the Trump administration will have on our country, and on people around the world, even after his presidency is done. Part of this can be seen in the ongoing attempts to impeach him, even though he is already out of office. Another lingering effect that was mentioned in the article was the stereotypes that have been formed around “Mexican Rapists'' and people trying to immigrate to America from Mexico, that could be harmful for years to come even if there is major change in immigration policies. I consider it very interesting and think I am somewhat lucky to be growing up in this time, because I am seeing so many events right now that set examples for what we shouldn’t do in the future. I also think that experiencing today’s political climate as a young adult, specifically this transition of power, will allow me, and every Gen Z American to “learn from our mistakes” in a way and secure us a brighter future.
