Poison, poison everywhere - Blog by Aiden C

I just find it interesting and kind of scary that such a deadly poison can cause birth defects and cancer to all people, but also cause these problems in newborn babies before they even leave the womb, which is just crazy. This chemical, known as PFAS and PFOS, is a human-made chemical (yes, made by us), which can cause cancer and birth defects in almost all people exposed to it. The writer of the article I read first discovered it from a farmer that was worried because he thought all his livestock was dying because of this white chemical floating in the river near his farm, and when the writer of this article, Rob Bilott, came to investigate, he found that the white substance was quite concerning. He was led to discover that this chemical was not only causing the deaths of the farmer’s livestock but was also causing the 70,000+ humans that lived around him to also get sick. Bilott sadly could not let the farmer know of this news, because the farmer had died of the poison a few years back. Personally, if the person that discovered this poison dies before it can be defined to him, I don’t want to be exposed to it, and I don’t think anyone else would either. The worst part is that this poison is used in a variety of non-stick products, one of the most popular being Teflon non-stick pans, which means that every time someone cooks something on one of those non-stick pans and eats it, they are ingesting some of this poison, which seems really bad. Finally, and probably the worst part of it, the FDA hasn’t done anything about this, and I don’t know if it has to do with covid or not, but it seems like this deserves a reaction bigger then the reaction about flint’s lead, due to the fact that it has spread across the globe.

Arkansas' Anti-trans bill

  Isa Pedersen  Mr. Roddy  IHSS 9 April 2021 Arkansas’ Anti-trans bill  For centuries the trans community was discriminated against. But recently Arkansas passed a bill that highly affects trans rights and healthcare. The bill states that trans individuals are not allowed to get gender affirming surgeries. This included hormones such as testosterone and androgen, as well as puberty blockers. This is said to be one of the most detrimental bills passed against the trans community in ages. Not only this but some states have already passed bills that don't allow trans kids to take part in sports or competitions. These states include Arkansas, Tennessee, and Mississippi. Tennessee and Alabama are already starting to get the same bill passed. Texas is on the list that is assumed to follow Arkansas and pass the bill as well. Andy Walsh Mr. Roddy IHSS 6 April 2021 The Pandemic has Been Bad for Civil Rights  The COVID-19 pandemic has brought a lot of challenges to today’s society. However, in Latin America it is an even bigger issue. Across all of Latin America, the health crisis has been accompanied by civic disruptions causing the lack of communication and justice in civic spaces. Widespread quarantines and lockdowns have put a lot of stress on the civic system of all countries.
