I read the article “Climate Change Will Make Parts of the U.S. Uninhabitable. Americans Are Still Moving There.” and did some follow up reading in “New Climate Map Shows a Transformed United States.” These two articles talked about how the Southern United States will soon be uninhabitable if nothing is done to slow down climate change. This will mean that people will have to migrate to the northern United states. The articles also talked about some of the big effects of climate change in certain places in the United States. It said that farm crop yields will decrease in the south and increase in the north, sea levels will rise, the temperature will get significantly hotter, there will be an increased amount of forest fires, and massive economic damage in the south.
I thought this article was actually quite scary and eye-openeing. The fact that the south will be uninhabitable quite soon if nothing is done to slow down climate change is honestly quite terrifying. The other effects of climate change like the forest fires and rising sea levels is terrifying too. I think that climate change is really going to have bigger effects than people realize. Like the article was saying there is going to be large migration of people from the South to the north if we continue at the path that we are on. It is also going to affect the environment, the way we live, the economy, and countless other things. We are definitely going to need people to really push the government to do what needs to be done to avoid this. This kind of ties into my class discussion about what President Biden’s plans are for combatting climate change and how he can do that efficiently. The idea of him using executive orders on climate change was brought up and I think that is really great way for him to combat Climate Change. Executive orders might just be absolutely necessary is we want to get on track to slow climate change as much as possible. I am interested to see what President Biden decides to do and how much progress will be made in the future.
