Dressing Up
Something that's interesting is that we feel the need to dress up and look our best at certain events or for certain people. Dressing up is completely unnecessary to our survival as a species but we still do it because of social reasons, as well as science. "dressing up makes people feel and seem more powerful and impacts their thinking and speech. Subjects in formal clothing spoke more abstractly and less concretely, and this was unrelated to socioeconomic backgrounds." (Linvi) We only dress up when we are going to an event or when we are with someone we are trying to impress or make a positive impression on them. We don't dress up for ourselves when we are at home. Our culture tells us that we need to look presentable when we are in public, or else we are seen as less intelligent or disrespectful.
Our society is strongly based on visual judgement. Depending on what you wear, you will either get the job or not. It will determine parts of your reputation, your initial and lasting impression on people, and whether or not you are given more responsibility. The human race will probably always have some way of expressing ourselves visually, whether its clothing or something else, and we will always have standards and norms that come with.
