Why Did Trump Gain More Minority Votes in 2020?

Katie Vojvodic Mr. Roddy IHSS  24 January 2021     Why Did Trump Gain More Minority Votes in 2020?                Though the topic was intriguing, the article I read on why Donald Trump picked up more minority votes in the 2020 election than he did in the previous presidential election left many questions unanswered. The author does a very good job going into detail about the percentages of the 2016 election votes versus those of the 2020 election and touches on every group of people considered a minority and how their votes compared to the last election (for example, Trump gained 4 percentage points with African Americans while Biden gained 8 percentage points from white men). However, the author failed to answer the question that was plastered right at the top of the article: why? The text does not name any ideas or speculations as to why these percentages shifted and what that could mean for Trump's campaign....

conspiracy theories and folklore are connected?

Lies and rumors often spread faster than the truth, and the same goes for conspiracy theories rather than facts. this article's research was provided by the joint knowledge of Tangherlini and his co-authors from the University of California. The first example of conspiracies was the "Pizzagate" conspiracy. this conspiracy was created when presidential candidate, Hillary Clinton, had her e-mail leaked. the e-mails had vague connections to human trafficking and the media started making more loose connections tying the e-mails to a pizza restaurant and claiming the restaurant basement was the base for holding child sex slaves. this interesting story built from loose connections lead to others contributing and making more loose connections from their interperatations thus creating a conspiracy theory. these stories build off of loose connections and unstable facts are easily spread and can quickly build up, but becasue of these loose links they can also be easily disassembled...

The US Presidential Transition

Alex Gross Mr. Roddy IHSS 22 January 2020 The US Presidential Transition Most Presidential Transitions could be considered a transferral of power that will bring new change in the country if the new president was a direct enemy or part of the opposing political party of the previous one. While this Presidential Transition fits those conditions, many people are not seeing it as a new administration that will bring change, but rather one that will set the stage for change in the future. Due to the youth of our country, especially the ones that go out and vote, being composed of a strong majority of democrats, it is likely that the presidents we see in office in the future will remain democratic. Rather than hoping for this current administration to do a lot of things that make change, the democrats are just praying that there are certain things this administration won’t do that have been a pattern in our country for the past four years. This sudden change from a red-dominated Senate, ...

Pick Your Poison

Non-Stick Will Stick Around Throughout the years invention and innovation have yielded several products to make our lives easier. Whether this change is as big as being able to cross a continent in hours by means of air travel or having the ability to get an omelet out of a pan without a struggle by means of non-stick technology, these inventions all affect us and those around us more than we think. Most use non-stick pans and stain removal products with ease, knowing that there is a quick fix to their situation. However, we would be more hesitant to do so if we were aware that these products could be slowly poisoning us. Most non-stick items and stain removal inventions have chemicals in them called PFOA’s and PFOS’s. Tests have been conducted on these chemicals that show they can have vastly negative effects on the environment and living creatures. Over the span of two decades, the tests have shown that not only are these poisonous chemicals in virtually every human, but they have ...

Poison, everywhere

I  study   a bit  of writing  approximately   some  compounds  which have  affected  almost   absolutely everyone  in America. This compound  is known as  PFOA, also known as Teflon.  it is  been  applied  in  matters  that we  touch  and  consume   each  day.  a number of   the one's   matters  are skillet, rugs, shoes, and  similar   matters   which have  a stain or water- secure  coat. This substance is an eternity  artificial   because of this that  t  may not  ever  give up  to exist,  it can   stay  for eternity. Trumps Wall

With his presidency coming to an end, Donald Trump is rushing to complete the infamous wall on the U.S./ Mexican border to stop illegal immigrants from coming into the country. The rush to get the wall completed is getting quite destructive and the wall posing potential issues that haven't been studied or looked into properly by the Trump administration. Currently, the place  where the conquistador Francisco Vázquez de Coronado entered what is now Arizona, named the  Colorado National Memorial is getting blown apart by dynamite in order to clear land for the wall. This is not only happening there, they're dynamiting and bulldozing mountainsides, desserts, and sensitive wildlife areas. The wall is being built near the San Rafael Valley which is a critical wildlife space home to two endangered cat species, the jaguar and ocelot, who go back and forth between the border in order to hunt for their food. There is also no way of telling how the 24-hour lighting on the wall is...

How Will Biden Stop Climate Change?- Alex Karni

Alex Karni IHSS Mr. Roddy Jan 20, 2021 How Will Biden Stop Climate Change? Climate change poses an existential threat to our modern day environment. Our health, national security, communities, schools, and economic well-being are at risk. Our new president, Joe Biden, promises to change this throughout his time in office. He plans to face climate change in ways that no other president has. There are a few ways that he plans on accomplishing this.  Joe Biden will lead the world to address the climate change emergency. The Biden plan will ensure that the U.S achieves an 100% clean energy economy and reaches net-zero emissions no later than 2050. Biden will demand that Congress enacts legislation that 1) establishes an enforcement mechanism that contains milestone targets, 2) huge investments in clean energy and climate change technologies, 3) quickly deploy climate change technology to cities that need it the most.  Biden also plans to gather the whole world to meet t...

The 1876 Hayes-Tilden Election

Nora Mayral Boyle Mr. Roddy IHSS January 19, 2020 The 1876 Hayes-Tilden Election The election of 1876 was a game-changing one, sparking a system that faces lots of controversy, and still entertains debate to this day.  The Tilden-Hayes presidential race was cutthroat. Both sides did their best to paint their opponent in as negative a light possible, and on election day, both sides supporters engaged in election fraud, with Hayes’ Republican party stuffing ballot boxes with repeat votes and throwing out Democratic votes, and Tilden’s party physically confronting voters in an attempt to either prevent them from voting, or for voting for their candidate. Ultimately, Tilden claimed victory, garnering over 200,000 more popular votes than his opponent, but it wasn't over yet.  In January of 1877, an idea was reached- a committee dedicated to determining which candidate would receive the 19 disputed votes. As America moved into February, civil unrest grew. Democrats in the hou...

Is Recycling Really Recycling?

Image
Chevron Phillips says "It will recycle 100% of the plastic it makes by 2040,” Yet  experts say “Plastic production is expected to triple by 2050.” The oil and gas business has been lying to us for over 50 years. Plastic is not generally recyclable. Reading the article, “How Big Oil Misled The Public Into Believing Plastic Would Be Recycled” by Laura Sullivan, makes me wonder how many other companies lie to us every day that we are still not aware of. The things companies cause can lead to many harmful effects to humanity. In this case, the company is hurting wildlife and nature itself. The company has reassured the public that plastic is recyclable, yet less than ten percent of plastic is recycled. The plastic will just go to waste, hurting Earth. Ever heard of the big blob of plastic, or a new trash continent in the Pacific Ocean? That place is where a lot of plastic that we send to China winds up. Now that China has shut down from the coronavirus, all that plastic is ending up i...

Trump's Border Wall

Oliver Erdmann Mr. Roddy IHSS 21 January 2021 Trump's Border Wall     One of President Trump's promises while in office was to build a wall separating The United States from Mexico on our south border. Trump did not start building this wall in time and near the end of his term he sped up the building and in turn is ruining lots of the nature in those areas. The article focuses specifically on the Arizona border with Mexico, an area with lots of different animals. The border wall is actually ruining the nature in those areas because it is causing these animals, that normally would cross the border all the time, to stay on one side or the other. There are 4 inch cracks in between the sections of wall but those are only big enough for the average squirrel and lizard. Another thing that is ruining the wildlife is the constant surveillance lights that are messing up the bats in that area during their nighttime fun. To try and build the wall in time, the contractors have been u...

Trump's Border Wall

Andres  Yengle Mr. Roddy IHSS 21 January 2021 Trump’s Border Wall At the Mexican border construction workers are strictly following Trump’s orders to finish as much of the wall as fast as possible even though Biden’s administration is likely to stop all construction immediately. Contractors are destroying miles and miles of wildlife to create roads and space for this great wall. They are bulldozing mountains and dynamiting desserts just to be able to build. The workers are cutting land for roads that no vehicle can even go through and are planning to build a wall on it. They're going as fast as possible but some environmental specialists are saying that at the rate they are going they don't know what detrimental effects the wall could have on the wildlife. Specialists are saying that they are not sure how the bats will respond to the constant light that the wall emits. Not only could the wall put a strain on wildlife but as well some ranch owners filing lawsuits after boul...
